| Congrats to Derek Stanley (Stan) on his achievement in breaking the Round Ireland record.. | Quote: | Team Pulsar in their Rib Seawolf set a new ISA National and UIM World record for the Time taken to powerboat around Ireland. This was achieved on Friday 11/09/09 when the Crew made up of Captain Justin M'Inerney, Co-skipper Derek Stanley and Gregory Marsaden left the Mizen at 0300 hrs on a quest to circumnavigate the Island of Ireland including all its rocks and islands except Rockhall in less than 19 hrs 13 mins. A time set by Philip Fitzgibbon and Michael Shanaghan when they set the previous record. The new record differs from the old in that is is 20 nautical miles longer due to having to go outside all the islands etc. Total distant 704 Nautical Miles. As their familys and friends waited with baited breath in Crookhaven all attention was on the regular reports of how the crew were getting on provided by the scuccerfish tracking system which was fitted to Seawolf. On the trip the crew met with varied conditions and with the boat running flawlessly they rounded the Fasnet and made a dash for the line at the Mizen. Running in the dark in a choppy sea they finally crossed the line at 22.09.50. Total time taken was 19 hours 9 minutes and 50 seconds. Well done to all concerned |
